The aftermath of an auto accident on the body

Car accidents are an unfortunate and traumatic experience. Over 2.3 million Americans are injured in auto accidents every year. Auto accidents often leave people with both short and long term physical and mental effects. When these things aren’t addressed properly, they can have a life long impact.

Physical issues present themselves differently depending on any number of factors so it is important to get checked out whether you’re in immediate pain or not. In my years of working with auto accident victims, I have seen some in immediate discomfort but many don’t feel the true physical impacts until 2 or 3 days later.

Headaches, dizziness, muscle spasms, strains and tenderness, and reduced range of motion are some of the short term symptoms to expect after a car accident has occurred.

The impact of a car accident can lead to long term pain and physical problems as well if not treated properly. Many people truly suffer from discomfort and chronic fatigue for years after an accident. Collisions cause degenerative disc/joint disease, loss of curve, loss of range of motion, permanent visual disturbance, chronic headaches, as well as so many other things.

Treatment for auto accidents includes spinal adjustments, electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound, rehabilitative stretches and exercises, and massages. Sometimes a specialist’s opinion is required in order to fully see just how thorough a person’s care should be.

It is also important to know that if you are a Florida resident with auto insurance, you are covered for care through your policy. Although some people have more coverage than others, under Florida law med pay is required and already built into your auto insurance. What this means is that even if you are the at fault driver or it was a no fault accident, those circumstances won’t keep you from receiving care if you need it. Resources and recommendations are available for every person who walks through our door.

At Midtown, we treat every patient on a case-by-case basis. This ensures that we can help prevent long-term suffering for our patients. Both Dr. Francisco Colon and Dr. Sebastian Colon have been treating victims of physical trauma for 10 years. The staff is comforting and knowledgeable and the Lake Worth/Lantana and West Palm Beach/S. Dixie locations are conveniently located.
